The argument has always been there - Should reps be able to create new companies?
We have recently added a raft of new features to help here:
1) A new permission per CompanyType. This means that I can allow a rep to create Direct companies or even Prospects but not Owners or Agencies or Installers.
2) When creating companies a rep will be assigned to the company (and can't change it)
3) Company will be marked as 'not credit approved' (IF that is the default) and the rep won't be able to change it. (See Credit Approval Settings blog or http://help.signz.co.nz/index.html?creditsettings.htm in the Help)
